At Alsana, we believe that healing happens in relationships and community. As allies, we believe that it is important not only to treat clients’ trauma but to actively advocate for a world that does not continue to traumatize our clients when they leave treatment. Our Social Justice Task Force is focused on three key areas: anti-racism, pro body diversity (all bodies are good bodies), and safe, affirming communities for our Partners in Pride.

Clinical
We have a lot of on-the-job training for all positions! We offer weekly training from our national leadership team and other thought-leaders. Our training includes topics that are medically, nutritionally, and therapeutically relevant in the eating disorder field. We also offer training at the local level. In addition to these training opportunities, Alsana offers a robust supervision structure that includes weekly discipline-specific 1:1 training and supervision as well as weekly discipline-specific group supervision.
There are many growth opportunities based on clinicians’ professional goals. Many of our clinicians begin their careers as direct care staff and grow into leadership roles. Opportunities are truly endless. Clinicians can move into discipline-specific roles (i.e., Lead therapist, lead dietitian, charge nurse) or more managerial/administrative roles (Director of Clinical Service, Program Director, etc.). Alsana is an innovative company that encourages growth, and there are plenty of opportunities for clinicians to advance their careers within the organization. There are also opportunities to work at different Alsana locations.
Clinicians do not need experience in the ED industry. The most important characteristic that we look for in a potential hire is being a team player. If someone is an excellent cultural fit for Alsana, the eating disorder knowledge can be taught!
Clinicians typically do not work traditional “shifts.” Week schedules can vary in terms of hours. For the most part, clinicians can collaborate with their supervisor regarding the hours they work each day. Because we offer treatment between 8-12 hours per day (based on the level of care), there is a range of hours that clinicians can work. Typically, clinicians can choose to come in during the early morning or late morning and work into the evening. Since we cover a full clinical day of programming, there are options based on clinician preference.
The majority of positions are on-site at a specific location, but we also offer a Virtual Program for clients, and that program utilizes a team of remote clinicians.
Yes, Alsana does offer qualifying supervision hours with dedicated and experienced Clinicians.
Alsana takes significant steps and effort towards creating soothing, homey spaces where clients can heal and thrive. We want our clients to be comfortable in serene environments that are not overly clinical or sterile (as hospitals can be). We encourage and incorporate a lot of hands-on experiences with cooking experientials and eating exposure opportunities. Clinicians also have many opportunities to do sessions outside on the Alsana community’s grounds or go off campus (when appropriate) to have a session in a “real-life setting.” Clinicians get to choose the ways they want to incorporate creative options for clinical intervention.
Medical
Psychiatrists are on call 24/7 and medical providers are available to psychiatrists for any questions or client-related issues. Due to the protocols we have in place and the training our staff receive, there are very few calls to the physicians.
Absolutely. Eating disorders is a very specialized niche with very few experts available. Fortunately, Alsana has thought leaders in the ED field for each dimension of the Adaptive Care Model (ACM). Specifically, physicians will be trained by Alsana’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Margherita Mascolo and Psychiatrist, Dr. Brad Zehring.
We treat the whole person, not just the disease. Medical seeks to educate clients on the organic causes of their symptoms and minimize the amount of unnecessary medical procedures and medications. Additionally, Alsana medical focuses on restorative sleep in order for clients to be able to participate in therapy.
Each site has a Director of Clinical Services (DoCS) responsible for the daily operations of the site. The entire clinical team reports to the DoCS. In addition, each region has a Regional Executive Director (RED) responsible for the operations of the entire region. Physicians report to the RED and have a dotted line to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO)
Thank you for exploring Alsana Careers. We hope to connect with you soon!
Social Justice Force
People throughout the country have been impacted by multiple crises at once: Coronavirus health crisis, economic hardships, and racial inequality. Because of these unprecedented times, it’s more important than ever that we take care of ourselves and our loved ones.
At Alsana, we take this mission to heart. During COVID-19, clients with trauma may experience an activation of trauma-related symptoms. As part of our eating disorder treatment, we also work with clients to help them heal from trauma. We understand that our clients cannot expect to achieve full, lasting eating disorder recovery without addressing their traumas as well.
We lead with real action and intentionality behind our advocacy and we proudly stand for social justice for all. We believe that Systemic Racism should be eradicated. We believe that All Bodies are Good Bodies. And we believe that Love is Love is LOVE for all genders and sexual orientations.
Our Social Justice Task Force currently has three committees that examine our internal practices and those within our treatment communities, and we take positive action.
- Anti-racism activism
- Body liberation (weight and size inclusivity)
- Partners in Pride advocacy
We’re actively training our employees to move from Ally to Advocate for those who are marginalized. If you want to make a difference and help create inclusive communities for all, Alsana is the place for you.
We are proud of a culture built on communication, collaboration, compassion, and integrity. Meet some of the everyday heroes behind Alsana.

Joy Ciskowski

We are change makers and it is magic.”

Michael Mason

Behind the Scenes at Alsana
Welcome to our eating recovery community.

Throughout the year, our programs teams celebrate “spirit weeks” to have some fun – both with clients and with each other. This was “beach day!”

Is this the best album cover you’ve ever seen?

At Alsana, we support clients in learning how to heal and rebuild healthy relationships with movement and exercise. On this day, we danced!

We believe that love is love. Alsana is proud to offer holistic programs that welcome all genders and all members of the LGBTQ+ community.

…And we would have gotten away with it, too – if it hadn’t been for this meddling programs team!

Who we are

A recovery community with five locations nationwide, we provide superior and committed care to help those on their journey to a healthy and successful recovery.
From the Latin roots meaning “all” or “total health,” Alsana offers a new philosophy of care centered on our clients’ full well-being. We address the aspects of eating disorders that often go untreated in traditional recovery programs.
Our culture is built on servant leadership, which places the client at the center of our model. We also focus on caring for and empowering our teams so they can equally care for and empower our clients.
Our culture creates a working environment of communication, collaboration, compassion and integrity—all of which are necessary to craft unique treatment plans tailored to our clients’ needs and outcomes.
Adaptive Care Model®
Everyone’s eating recovery journey is unique. That’s why Alsana’s holistic programs are adaptive, designed to meet each client where they are in their recovery.

Medical Treatment
We heal bodies and minds.

Nutrition
We believe in and practice all-inclusive nutrition.

Movement
We support movement, for every body.
Registered Dietitian
Our dietitians are responsible for providing nutrition therapy to our clients as members of the interdisciplinary team. The dietitian partners with the client throughout their recovery journey to challenge the eating disorder beliefs and restore a trusting relationship with both food and body. Dietitians meet with the client every week, working together to create individual goals specific to each client’s recovery story. The dietitian reports at treatment team meetings, attends staff meetings, provides staff trainings, and supports culinary staff with menu development, kitchen management and food preparation. The dietitian plans for the nutritional needs of the client, adjusting menus for food allergies and intolerances and providing a therapeutic approach to discussing food and client’s relationship with food. They plan and lead meal and snack exposures, grocery outings, and culinary experientials. The dietitian also supports the movement dimension of client’s healing through psycho-education, leading movement groups, and individual and group movement exposures.
Direct Care Counselor
Our direct care staff are our MVPs of the Alsana team; they spend the most time with our clients. They support each client’s physical and psychological wellbeing at all times; they may provide one-on-one assistance to clients in crisis, as directed by the clinical team. They assist clients with their nutritional healing as they supervise clients during meal times, including self-portioning and post-meal processing. Our direct care staff complete accurate and timely documentation of group therapy, meal sessions, and client behavior and presentation. Many of our direct care staff come to Alsana to learn about the field of eating disorders, to flourish under the supervision of tenured clinicians, and to gain experience in a growing behavioral healthcare setting.
Staff Psychologist
Our therapists deliver clinical services to clients with eating disorders and their families. They work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and deliver individual therapy as well as group therapy, family therapy, and psychoeducation. They often support client’s healing by sharing meals and snacks together, and doing joint sessions with the multi-disciplinary team. They provide case management and appropriate documentation of services; they participate in training and supervision; they collaborate with outreach and admissions teams; and they provide milieu support.
