Brief Workshop Summary:

What defines excessive exercise and recovery in the field of eating disorders are concepts lacking consensus definitions. The corresponding research/practice gap leaves clinicians and patients critically uninformed about what, if any, activity is safe for patients, and how to know if and when they are considered well. This workshop reviews the quantitative and qualitative literature on definitions of dysfunctional exercise and recovery, and provides practical tools for promoting intuitive exercise and an integrative perspective on being recovered.

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will learn what distinguishes dysfunctional exercise in eating disorders, and if/when and how to incorporate intuitive exercise in patient’s treatment.

2. Participants will learn what distinguishes quantitative vs.qualitative definitions of eating disorder recovery.

3. Participants will learn a biopsychospiritual “recipe for recovery.”
