Located southwest of St. Louis in Pacific, MO, this Residential Treatment Center rests on a serene 14+acre campus, surrounded by trees and fresh air. Rebekah Freese, LCSW, Ph.D

Rebekah Freese, LCSW, Ph.D.  holds a Masters of Social Work (MSW) as well as a Doctorate degree in Philosophy from the University of Missouri. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker of the State of Missouri. She specializes in eating disorders, borderline personality disorder, gender, sexuality, and trauma.  She has treated individuals with an array of eating disorders, trauma, and BPD since 1997. She has extensive experience with commonly co-occurring conditions such as depression, anxiety, and substance use.  She has proficiency in clinical program development, management, and growth as well as quality assurance and program evaluation.

Rebekah has a strong commitment to work with those who experience high severity of life-threatening behaviors especially youth and young adults.  She has extensive training in evidence-based practice Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Family-Based Treatment (FBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapies (TF-CBT and CBT), Prolonged Exposure (PE) as well as the combination of DBT-PE.  She is passionate about her work and strives to assist her clients in developing balance and compassion in their lives.

When you have the chance to meet Rebekah, you will instantly realize she has a strong interest in developing organizations where everyone is welcomed and included. She is actively involved in her community to advocate for education, social justice, and awareness for mental health especially eating disorder treatment care and accessibility.  She serves as one of the expert practitioners for the Show-Me Disordered Eating and Eating Disorder ECHO. The ECHO connects interdisciplinary teams of experts with primary care providers to develop advanced skills and best practices.   She is a board member and President-elect for 2022 for the Missouri Eating Disorders Association (MOEDA) and sits on the Missouri Eating Disorder Council for the State of Missouri.

In her personal life, she enjoys hiking, reading, gardening, and spending time with family.

Carla is a registered nurse with an MS in Nursing Leadership and Management and a BS in Organizational Leadership and also in nursing. Before joining the Alsana team, Carla worked in the ICU, urgent care, business, and clinical review nursing settings.

Carla’s values include treating everyone with kindness, fairness, and respect. Carla feels that she is currently living her life goal in nursing leadership and management, and hopes to continue to grow in her career. In her spare time, Carla likes to spend time with her family both boating and traveling, and is a new grandparent!

Sierra Knirlberger, BSW

Sierra has been working with Alsana for two years and has had grown from Direct Care to Program Director. She has a dual undergraduate degree in social work and theology. Sierra is currently working on her last two practicum credits to obtain her MSW at Washington University in St. Louis. Throughout working at Alsana, she has been impressed with Alsana’s commitment to client care and the continued care for staff.

Sierra is passionate in continuing to make Alsana a safe space for all sized bodies in any eating disorder. Also, providing a treatment space that can be fun and lighthearted with doing hard work.

Before Alsana, Sierra was working as a restaurant manager for 5 years while completing her undergraduate degree. During this time, she was able to work on and connect with her leadership style. Sierra believes in walking with her team rather than driving her team.

Sierra values honesty, vulnerability, and accountability throughout her everyday life. Outside of Alsana, Sierra values self-care in walking her dog Milo and spending time outside.
Sierra is proud and very happy to call Alsana her lifelong dream job that marries her leadership calling and therapeutic calling.

Meredith Throop, MD

Dr. Meredith Throop is a practicing psychiatrist treating the 15 and older population. She attended Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts with a Bachelor of Science in Health Psychology. She continued on to Columbia University in New York to complete the Post-baccalaureate Premedical Program. She completed medical school at Saint Louis University and her residency in the Department of Neurology and Psychiatry at Saint Louis University Hospital. She is board certified through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Dr. Throop has extensive experience as the Vice President of Medical Services at Places for People, a community behavioral health organization, as well as in private practice. She has worked with the Department of Corrections and continues to work with the Probate Courts.

Dr. Throop’s approach is patient-centered/patient-focused. Patient-centered care is a concept that gives primacy to the voice and concerns of the person using the health care service. The goal is to enable and empower patients to better appreciate, and play an active role in their overall health. Dr. Throop aims to take a holistic approach to mental health. She has studied traditional healing systems and medical anthropology in India as well as several countries in Africa.

Before joining Alsana, Martina specialized in working with clients who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. Martina believes that challenges are what make life interesting, and overcoming challenges is what makes life meaningful. In her spare time, Martina enjoys crocheting, roller-skating with her family, and sewing.

Rachel Sappington, FNP

Rachel is a family nurse practitioner who works in private family practice, in addition to working with Alsana. She attended the University of Missouri, St. Louis for both her undergraduate and graduate degrees, and has a diverse nursing background which includes working with trauma/ortho, labor & delivery, and urgent care.

Rachel found her passion for working with eating disorders while working in family practice when a colleague spoke about the need for the treatment of medical conditions related to eating disorders. Rachel’s goal is to establish relationships with clients that will help to restore their confidence and trust in the medical treatment of their symptoms that relate to the eating disorder.

Rachel is married with 3 children, and also has a Doberman and a Siamese. She enjoys reading, boating and spending time being active with her family.

Courtney Watring, LD, RDN

Courtney began her career at Alsana as Registered Dietitian and quickly transitioned into a Lead role. She has a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from Fontbonne University, when she held the Secretary and President positions for the Student Association.

She was accepted into Southeast Missouri State University’s Dietetic Internship and passed the registered dietitian exam. Her past work experiences include being a diet clerk at St. Anthony’s Hospital, Diabetes Education and Accreditation Program Board Member for Washington University Clinical Associates, and Nutrition Assistant for Nutrition Exchange of St. Louis.

    disorder were addressed. This has proven to be essential in my treatment at Alsana and also in my daily life as a member of society. Alsana providers led me through so much illuminating self-reflection about topics that I had never before considered relevant to my treatment, recovery, or self in general.
