Erica Romano, LCMHC

Utilization Review Specialist | she/her/hers

As a Utilization Review Specialist at Alsana, Erica works to advocate for clients to receive the appropriate level of care, and to ensure their time in treatment is authorized by their insurance company. Erica was drawn to this role because she believes everyone is deserving of recovery, and insurance coverage should never be a barrier to someone receiving the care they need.

Erica earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Stetson University in DeLand, FL (Go Hatters!). Prior to Alsana, Erica has worked as a counselor in Medication Assisted Treatment for opioid use disorders, a middle school counselor, and a Clinical Assessor at an eating disorder facility.

Erica finds it fulfilling to be a voice for the client and the treatment team; communicating clients’ needs and goals to insurance companies. She loves celebrating clients’ progress and successes behind the scenes. Erica’s greatest hope for clients in recovery is that they are able to show themselves compassion on their hardest days, that they recognize how courageous they are for choosing recovery, and they know that they never have to be on this journey alone – help is always here!

In her free time, Erica enjoys trying new restaurants, cooking with her husband, traveling to Vermont to see family, and snuggling with her rescue cats Reggie and Milo Binx.

Fun Facts: Erica traveled across the country for the first few years of her life as her father was a professional baseball player. She has an older sister, and they were both born on August 18th! Erica ended up marrying her best friend from college, relocated to North Carolina, and they own a coffee company together.
