What is your new role at Alsana?

I am thrilled to be joining Alsana as the Director of Regional Outreach for the Northeast. I’m looking forward to connecting with referral sources, building new relationships, and sharing with them what Alsana is all about!

Can you tell us about yourself?

I am a small town girl from the beach in New Jersey. I’m the proud mom of two little boys, and my husband and I have made a home not far from where we both grew up. Anyone that knows me will tell you I love to talk – so I guess I’ve landed in the right profession! I’m also an avid crocheter, I’m certain rescue animals make the best four-legged companions (we have three!), and there’s nothing quite like the beach early in the morning before the crowds come along.

I try to live my days like a bumble bee – nothing is impossible: “Aerodynamically, the bumble bee shouldn’t be able to fly, but the bumble bee doesn’t know it so it goes on flying anyway.” — Mary Kay Ash

What do you enjoy about working in the field of eating disorders and mental health treatment?

I enjoy helping people find a better tomorrow. If I can help someone through my intimate knowledge of the treatment available and link them with resources that can help them start their journey towards whatever future will allow them to live a happier, more peaceful, fulfilling life, I’ve done my job.  I’ve watched many people take that journey from one side of an eating disorder to the other, and while it’s a transformation hard to put into words, I will never tire of seeing it realized.

What drew you to Alsana?

I’m especially drawn to Alsana’s desire to be a resource to providers, clients, and families across the country. I identify strongly with that purpose on a personal level as well – to be one that another can call on.

What is your message of HOPE to someone affected by an eating disorder?

My message of HOPE is to know that there is more to life on the other side of an eating disorder. So often when any of us are in the midst of a difficult time in our lives, it becomes hard to imagine the possibility of feeling or knowing anything else. We can’t possibly fathom a different path because we’ve known the one we’ve been walking for so long. But it’s so very important to know that recovery is absolutely possible. We have to share the stories of HOPE we’ve experienced in our own lives and seen in the lives of others experiencing recovery so that when we meet someone stuck in the dark, we can help them find the bright spots in life

Cathy holds a B.A. in Psychology and Women’s & Gender Studies from The College of New Jersey. She previously worked as the Admissions Coordinator and then the Clinical Outreach Coordinator for a national inpatient and partial hospital treatment program. Cathy joined Alsana with over 10 years of experience in the field of eating disorders and has dedicated the entirety of her professional career to helping clinicians, families, and clients find hope and new life in recovery. Cathy’s work is driven by her desire to continue to be a trusted and knowledgeable resource for her region. The relationships she’s created over the past decade have been a major part of her personal and professional growth.  For Cathy, connecting people with one another and creating a community is what it’s all about. Raised at the beach, and lucky enough to still call such a beautiful place her home, Cathy enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons, crocheting, and living a life that’s full of creativity.
